The Flower Mound Town Council voted to send 12 of the 13 amendments to the May Municipal Election Ballot. Charter Amendment #3, which addressed council compensation, was the only one not to make it to the ballot.
The most important Charter Amendment, the requirement of a super majority to change or repeal the ordinance, will go to the people of Flower Mound to vote. This is good news for those of us concerned about the safety of our new strong ordinance.
More details to come later.

Our Mission: To work in a legal, ethical, and civil manner to stop urban gas drilling in the highly residential areas of North Texas. We are not against all gas drilling, but rather that which will adversely affect the public safety, the enjoyment of our homes, and our overall quality of life. We support the need for better regulation and accountability of the Oil & Gas Industry in rural and urban areas of Texas.
Yay!

Great news!!
ReplyDeleteAfter years of preaching about amending city charters, I'm glad to hear that at least one community (Flower Mound) is catching onto the idea of making REAL changes my amending their city charter. THAT is the only method that will keep perpetually changing city councils from bowing to the large amounts of cash presented by the gas drilling industry to local politicians. Crooks abound in local governments...are you listening Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, Arlington?
