LISD Council of PTA's to host School Board Candidate Forum

LISD Council of PTA's to host candidate forum in advance of LISD School Board elections. Since gas drilling is already happening near some schools and about to be close to others, this may be a good time to ask the candidates their views on the health and safety of our children.

When: April 22, 2010 at 6:30 pm

Where: LISD Student Services Building

What: A candidate forum with questions submitted in advance from residents of LISD. Questions will be asked by a moderator. The public is encouraged to attend.

All candidates are aware of this event and some have already expressed their plans to attend.

Residents who want to submit questions should do so in writing by e-mailing Cinnamon Dilts, Legislative Action Chair for the Council, at cinnamon96003@yahoo.com.

Questions will be sorted by subject and asked by a moderator. Candidates will have time limits for their responses.

I would like to know what LISD plans to do about the air quality surrounding the schools near drilling. We as parents should demand that they have permanent air testing systems at the schools and consistantly test the inside air. Buy signing leases, they put our children at risk. I am deeply worried about long term health risks from chemicals in gas drilling. Our children spend 8 hours or longer a day at the school campus.

They are too busy worrying about the budget and how they are going to shove more taxes down our throats, to care about those pesky kids and their health.

This anonymous writer should move her family to a state or country where everything is perfect and quit posting STUPID comments.

anon 8:40. I think that it is a valid concern for those parents who have children that attend schools near gas drilling.
You must not have children in any of these schools or are like the rest of the people that think drilling near homes and schools is okay....making a profit.

I'm not really sure why you singled out that post as "stupid", I have made worse posts than that, I'm just trying to wrap my head around, air testing at schools being stupid, whether there is anything there or not, how is that bad. You should have your air tested in your home, just for anything, drilling in the area or not. Your comment is not stupid, but I sure don't understand it.

I will encourage the LISD school board to negotiate mineral leases for the school property. With all the land LISD ownes, there is an excellent opportunity to generate revenue in order to reduce property taxes (assuming they hold the mineral rights).
